NEW SC DISTRO ACTION...
Hoquiam - Hoquiam LP (St. Ives)
Hoquiam is Damien Jurado (guitar and voice) and his brother Drake Jurado (percussion and keyboard). Gothic folk, personal narratives, and simple strong percussive elements define the music.
Wolf People - Tidings LP (Jagjaguwar)
Stitched together in a style reminiscent of early Faust or early Mothers Of Invention, the songs lay nestled in snatches of field recordings, winding tapes, squealing feedback, studio outtakes and the voices of dead relatives. The tunes themselves are full of hissing guitars, distorted blues harmonica, acid rock, mystical flutes and crackling tape.

+DUBLAB'S SECONDHAND SURESHOTS: DVD, 12-INCH, SLIPMATS & HAND-SCREENED SLEEVES--Secondhand Sureshots (Deluxe Super Set)
DVD Secondhand Sureshots the film
RECORD 12-inch Picture Disc--original music by Daedelus, J-Rocc, Nobody and Ras G, plus a megamix by Kutmah
SLIPMATS Left & Right.
SLEEVES Hand-screened gatefold LP sleeves individually printed by Hit+Run
Here's the short and sweet--will will have it in the shop the first week of December...
Secondhand Sureshots is a filmed experiment in creative sound recycling. Dublab directors Bryan "Morpho" Younce & Mark "frosty" McNeill sent beatmakers Daedelus, Nobody, J.Rocc and Ras G on safari into L.A. thrift stores with orders to make new music out of five finds while the cameras filmed the whole process. The result is a mini-documentary about putting new life into old vinyl. Over 2 hours of footage, music & bonus material.
The Deluxe Super Set is a true sound and vision experiment. Dublab scoured Southern California and rescued 500 gatefold LP covers from dusty thrift store bin obscurity. Our graphic friends at Hit+Run took the covers and screen-printed them by hand, making new visual masterpieces to house the first public release of Secondhand Sureshots. Stuffed in this package is all-exclusive material sampled and shredded into new forms fine-tuned to blow your mind. We hope it inspires you to make your own creative gems and jams!
+TOM WAITS 7-LP 'ORPHANS' VINYL BOX SET!

+EDDIE HINTON TRIBUTE 7" SINGLES!
Our bros at Shake It Records, in Cinci, are putting out these killer tribute singles for the mighty Eddie Hinton! First up in the series: Mr. Greg Dulli and Drive By Truckers!
Check out what Patterson Hood had to say about these 7s and the beauty of vinyl, in general:
Y'ALL:
We're pleased to be part of Shake It Records' Eddie Hinton Tribute 45 Series. (Dangerous Highway). Eddie was a long time resident of my hometown and a big part of the Muscle Shoals recording legacy. He was the artist our band collectively loves most. The series is largely to raise awareness of Eddie's incredible musical legacy. It is also to raise awareness of the fact that vinyl does still exist (and in fact is one of the few sectors of the troubled music industry that is actually growing). The series' vinyl only release plan also enabled the man who put it all together to reach across record company lines and get artists whose labels might have otherwise objected to their recording independently (It is much easier to get permission and avoid a lot of legal paper work if the label is told that this is a vinyl only release).
There has been some bellyaching and complaining but I feel that the point is being missed. Guess what? You can actually still buy a turntable. You might be amazed how inexpensive a good turntable is. I bought my Stanton T.90 for less than $300 and it has a USB port to download onto my iPod (although being in my 40s, I haven't figured out how to do that yet). Cooley doesn't own a iPod or computer so he opted for the lesser expensive, but still high quality Stanton without the USB port. I think it was in the $200 range and sounds fantastic. I bought my wife a small record player, like the ones they had in school when we were kids, for $50 and it plays 33, 45, and 78s and actually sounds pretty good. Once you own a turntable, you'll be amazed at the fun you can have going out and buying really cool records really cheaply. It starts out as a hobby and can quickly become a passion or obsession. Some older records may have some pops and scratches, but they also have great bass (much better than CDs) and there is nothing like the fun of spending an evening playing records for your friends. We often have a turntable on the bus and take turns DJing and prowling local record stores for cool cheap vinyl. (Buying vinyl also means more support for the locally owned record retailers, which are far superior to the mass market chains and NEED OUR SUPPORT!)
New records are often of a much higher quality than the records we bought as kids. All of our vinyl releases are on 180gm vinyl which sound amazing. We spare no expense in our packaging and mastering and our vinyl releases are the best sounding DBT releases available. (Plus the packaging is much nicer). Our next album will be released on vinyl with a CD included for downloading and mobility purposes. (I released Murdering Oscar that way and nearly 1 out of 4 sales were in that format).
We took part in this project to urge folks to buy vinyl and support this superior aspect of the recording industry. I ordered my turntable online and it was delivered within 5 days (with cartridge and stylus included). So get with it and get to spinning them records. It may be the best investment you make all year. (Ask Santa!)
Yours, lovingly spinning at 45RPMs,
Patterson Hood
