Various Artists - Eccentric Soul: Nickel & Penny Labels 2xLP (Numero)
Recently released on CD -- now available on vinyl. Numero’s final release of 2011 took five years to assemble. Astute readers of previous liner notes may remember a section on acclaimed Chicago dusties DJ Richard Pegue in Eccentric Soul: Twinight’s Lunar Rotation. But for those who are more aurally connected to Numero, he’s brilliant arranger and producer on Renaldo Domino’s “Not Too Cool To Cry” and “Nevermore,” the Perfections “Why Do You Want To Make Me Sad” and “Which One Am I,” and Sidney Pinchback’s “Soul Strokes.” As soon as Twinight was done Numero approached Richard about doing a similar treatment for his Nickel and Penny concerns. He was immediately interested, but then again, Pichard Pegue was interested in everything. He died in the middle of working on this project, but we think he’d be pretty thrilled with the finished product.

Various Artists - Thai Funk: Zudrangma Volume 1 and Volume 2 2xLP (Light In The Attic)
Forgotten Thai pop, garage rock, funk, and disco tracks by a cross-section of local ‘60s-‘70s artists unknown outside of Southeast Asia.

In Your Honor / Skin And Bones (Sony Legacy)

Tracey Thorn vs. The XX
Some are calling it the first recorded music, from EBTG, in 10 years. This super-limited blue vinyl contains not only a cover of The XX's "Night Time," but Ewan Pearson's re-edit of Visionquest's "Swimming" remix, as well as Charles Webster's remix of the track. We simply dig it...

Check out one of the first offerings on Software--a limited edition by Ford & Lopatin, on 12" X-RAY picture disc--four different versions/images exist! Software is a collaboration/imprint of Brooklyn’s Mexican Summer with computer cowboys Joel Ford (Tigercity) and Daniel Lopatin (Oneohtrix Point Never), best known for their starry partnership as the infamous, Games. We think you'll want all four…

Hiss Golden Messenger's 'Bad Debt' has caught our ears and captured our decks! Micros-pressed vinyl (an edition of 100 only), along with a letter-pressed book. The independent (UK) calls it "a thing of gentle charm and unmistakable cosmic American beauty." You'll want it...

Grouper's (aka Liz Harris) two new records ('Dream Loss' and 'Alien Observer'--together, they're known as 'A I A'), have just arrived at the shop. Only 1000 copies exist of each and our copies are almost sold out! Run, don't walk...

It's been a good month of finding vinyl gems--to that end, we should have a few more copies of the hard-to-find Burial/Thom Yorke/Four Tet collab 12" back in very soon...

>The Flaming Lips with Neon Indian 12" (FL/WB)
We are super stoked (and super fortunate) to have gotten our hands on copies of the limited edition collaboration between The Flaming Lips and Neon Indian.
In addition to the new, exclusive music, these gems are printed on special colored vinyl (with Mr. Wayne Coyne picking the colors himself) and no two copies looking exactly the same. Completely rad.
Hats off to you, fellas--this is precisely the thought, execution, and innovation that goes into making beautiful artifacts!
Here's the EP's tracklist:
1. Is David Bowie Dead?
2. Alan's Theremin
3. You Don't Respond
4. Do You Want New Wave or Do You Want the Truth Part 2

>Birds Of America - Nitewalker b/w Now I See It 7" (Crooked Arm)
Art Don and LUNA pal, Nat Russell has constructed the next chapter in the Birds Of America story.
Now in stock, all 300 numbered copies come in three different covers and include: a descriptive insert fold-out, an actual vinyl record, and a very cool circular label that I, personally, love.
You can check it out (and other BOA magic) HERE Or, hit the man up himself HERE.
Viva la tangible object! Viva la oiseaux d'Amérique!

>Dow Jones And The Industrials - S/T 7" (HMR)
Dow Jones and the Industrials were a punk band from West Lafeyette, Indiana from the late 1970's until about 1981. Their highly-sought after 7" is being reissued at the end of March!

>Jorma & Movie Bare (MARMOSET) - Lollipop Gold LP (St. Ives)
Formed from the mind-brain of Marmoset songsmith Jorma Whittaker with a little help from friends, this cauldron of material was brought into light with a distinctly male/female, death/life, able/unable articulation.

>Bonnie 'Prince' Billy And The Cairo Gang - Island Brothers b/w New Wonder 10” (Drag City)
New 10” vinyl single from Bonny and his Cairo Gang, with all profits from sales given to a Louisville-based organization Edge Outreach, specifically to aid the urgent needs currently in Haiti.

>The Cure - Entreat Plus 2xLP (Elektra)
Originally released as a promo disc in 1990, the eight-track Entreat -- recorded at London's Wembley Arena in July 1989 -- was later released commercially in Europe. This expanded vinyl edition fleshes out the album to replicate a full live performance of 1989's epic Disintegration, with tracks remixed by Robert Smith.

>Kleenex/LiLiPUT - 4LP Box 4xLP (Mississippi Records)
Released by Kill Rock Stars on double CD, Kleenex/LiLiPUT is now available on vinyl. One of the most unique punk bands of our time, hailed from Zurich, Switzerland. From '78-'80 Kleenex gigged around, recorded two 7" singles and toured the UK with such acts as Gang Of Four, The Swell Maps and The Raincoats. In 1980, the group changed their name to LiLIPUT.

NEW JOAN OF ARC IN AND ON COLOURED VINYL!
Joan Of Arc - Oh Brother 2xLP (Joyful Noise)
Combination of four distinct albums recorded between 2004-2010, which were begun but never completed. Here, Tim Kinsella has dispensed with words altogether, choosing to break up and splice together various recording sessions in a baroque, tessellating dreamscape of noisy beauty.
'Oh Brother' is a vinyl/digital-only release, limited to 500 hand-numbered double LPs in gatefold jackets. Numbers 1 to 150 are on white vinyl.

NEW ST. IVES RELEASE (AKA FUTURE EBAY NUGGET)
Mike Adams At His Honest Height - Oscillate Wisely LP
The wit and candor of Roger Miller and Morrissey, the faint inducing crooning of Roy Orbison and Chris Isaak, the ethereal transcendence of Talk Talk and Starflyer 59, the dash-pounding drive of Neu! and The Ramones, the pop ingenuity of Badfinger and Big Star.

>Old Rottenhat [Reissue] LP+CD (Domino)
>Rock Bottom [Reissue] LP+CD (Domino)
>Ruth Is Stranger Than Richard [Reissue] LP+CD (Domino)
“An enduring figure who came to prominence in the early days of the English art rock scene, Robert Wyatt has produced a significant body of work, both as the original drummer for art rockers Soft Machine and as a radical political singer/songwriter.” -- Allmusic

FOR THE LOVE OF THE ARTIFACT...
You have to give it up for label heads that still represent with their love of image and ingenuity, when it comes to properly releasing music.
The debut 12" single (in which the art is overprinted on a paper innersleeve) from Montreal's Flowers And Sea Creatures, on Buzzin' Fly, is an usually fresh combination of unique vocals (Graham Baxter has one of those indelible, melancholic voices that doesn't soon leave your head...) along side moody, late-night songs and instrumentation.

Jack White's Third Man releases a spate of new songs, over a slew of formats (including the now jaw-dropping Triple Decker and the scented vinyl Karen Elson). The Dead Weather's second single from Sea Of Cowards, on 7", is backed with a live version of "Jawbreaker." The 12" is backed with two non-LP tracks: "No Hassle Night" and a live version of Muddy Waters’ "I Just Want To Make Love To You." And the aformentioned Karen Elson - Truth Is In The Dirt b/w Season Of The Witch 7" smells peachy!

Wolf People - Tidings LP (Jagjaguwar)
Stitched together in a style reminiscent of early Faust or early Mothers Of Invention, the songs lay nestled in snatches of field recordings, winding tapes, squealing feedback, studio outtakes and the voices of dead relatives. SLEEVES Hand-screened gatefold LP sleeves individually printed by Hit+Run
Here's the short and sweet--will will have it in the shop the first week of December...
Secondhand Sureshots is a filmed experiment in creative sound recycling. Dublab directors Bryan "Morpho" Younce & Mark "frosty" McNeill sent beatmakers Daedelus, Nobody, J.Rocc and Ras G on safari into L.A. thrift stores with orders to make new music out of five finds while the cameras filmed the whole process. The result is a mini-documentary about putting new life into old vinyl. Over 2 hours of footage, music & bonus material.
The Deluxe Super Set is a true sound and vision experiment. Dublab scoured Southern California and rescued 500 gatefold LP covers from dusty thrift store bin obscurity. Our graphic friends at Hit+Run took the covers and screen-printed them by hand, making new visual masterpieces to house the first public release of Secondhand Sureshots. Stuffed in this package is all-exclusive material sampled and shredded into new forms fine-tuned to blow your mind. We hope it inspires you to make your own creative gems and jams!

+EDDIE HINTON TRIBUTE 7" SINGLES!
Our bros at Shake It Records, in Cinci, are putting out these killer tribute singles for the mighty Eddie Hinton! First up in the series: Mr. Greg Dulli and Drive By Truckers!
Check out what Patterson Hood had to say about these 7s and the beauty of vinyl, in general:
Y'ALL:
We're pleased to be part of Shake It Records' Eddie Hinton Tribute 45 Series. (Dangerous Highway). Eddie was a long time resident of my hometown and a big part of the Muscle Shoals recording legacy. He was the artist our band collectively loves most. The series is largely to raise awareness of Eddie's incredible musical legacy. It is also to raise awareness of the fact that vinyl does still exist (and in fact is one of the few sectors of the troubled music industry that is actually growing). The series' vinyl only release plan also enabled the man who put it all together to reach across record company lines and get artists whose labels might have otherwise objected to their recording independently (It is much easier to get permission and avoid a lot of legal paper work if the label is told that this is a vinyl only release).
There has been some bellyaching and complaining but I feel that the point is being missed. Guess what? You can actually still buy a turntable. You might be amazed how inexpensive a good turntable is. I bought my Stanton T.90 for less than $300 and it has a USB port to download onto my iPod (although being in my 40s, I haven't figured out how to do that yet). Cooley doesn't own a iPod or computer so he opted for the lesser expensive, but still high quality Stanton without the USB port. I think it was in the $200 range and sounds fantastic. I bought my wife a small record player, like the ones they had in school when we were kids, for $50 and it plays 33, 45, and 78s and actually sounds pretty good. Once you own a turntable, you'll be amazed at the fun you can have going out and buying really cool records really cheaply. It starts out as a hobby and can quickly become a passion or obsession. Some older records may have some pops and scratches, but they also have great bass (much better than CDs) and there is nothing like the fun of spending an evening playing records for your friends. We often have a turntable on the bus and take turns DJing and prowling local record stores for cool cheap vinyl. (Buying vinyl also means more support for the locally owned record retailers, which are far superior to the mass market chains and NEED OUR SUPPORT!)
New records are often of a much higher quality than the records we bought as kids. All of our vinyl releases are on 180gm vinyl which sound amazing. We spare no expense in our packaging and mastering and our vinyl releases are the best sounding DBT releases available. (Plus the packaging is much nicer). Our next album will be released on vinyl with a CD included for downloading and mobility purposes. (I released Murdering Oscar that way and nearly 1 out of 4 sales were in that format).
We took part in this project to urge folks to buy vinyl and support this superior aspect of the recording industry. I ordered my turntable online and it was delivered within 5 days (with cartridge and stylus included). So get with it and get to spinning them records. It may be the best investment you make all year. (Ask Santa!)
Yours, lovingly spinning at 45RPMs,
Patterson Hood
